Backing up data is always a smart move, especially when it comes to important project files. You can find all sorts of backup utilities on the Internet, which are very efficient, but if you are interested in backing up project files, like Adobe PSD, SESX, INDD or other file types, then you should definitely look at Gobbler. This particular application is focused on project files, but you can also use it with images, documents and any other file type. Furthermore, Gobbler can help you organize your files and share them with your coworkers.

The software is available in free and paid versions and you can choose one based on how much storage space you want on the cloud. If you opt for the free version, you will get 5 GB of storage space. Installing Gobbler is a quick procedure, which does not involve any complicated settings.

When you launch the software for the first time, you will have to create a Gobbler account or sign in, using a Facebook, Twitter or Box account. The user interface consists of several sections, in which you can view received messages and a history of sent items, explore files and set up file or folder filters. The Files section is laid out like an explorer window, but instead of displaying folders and sub-folders, the software displays a single window with all project files on the selected partition. You can scan individual partitions and scroll through their contents, but you can also view all project files on the hard drive or files that were uploaded to the cloud.

Once it scans a partition, Gobbler will display project files, in various formats, but you can set up filters if you wish to find other file types, like images, documents, videos and so on. The software comes with its own library of file formats and you just need to select one, to include it in the scan results. You can add your own formats to the database, by typing a file extension or by clicking and dragging a sample file on a small window. It is also possible to filter the scan results by folders. If you want to locate files from a specific folder, you just need to select that folder in a different section of the interface. The file and folder filters can be enabled or disabled at any time, by clicking their corresponding on/off switches, located in the lower left area of the main window.

Gobbler makes it quite easy to upload and share files. All you have to do is drag and drop your files on a separate window, on which you must type in the recipient's email address. Unlike email services, Gobbler allows you to send any amount of data in a single run. Additionally, files can be uploaded to the cloud at a moment's notice, thanks to the program's auto-backup feature. You just need to select one or more files and click an on/off switch. A series of icons are displayed next to uploaded files, to help you figure out if your files are backed up, if a file can be found only on the cloud, if a backed up item is out of date and so on.

Pros

The software makes it easy to back up and share project files. It displays all project files on one or more partitions, in the same list, and it allows you to set up filters. You can upload any number of files to the cloud with a single click.

Cons

The free version allows you to send a maximum amount of data per month. Critical project files can be shared among coworkers and backed up to the cloud as fast and easy as possible, thanks to Gobbler's straightforward functionality.
